Supreme Court Collegium recommends 2 lawyers for elevation as Patna High Court judges

The Patna High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 36 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 53.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of 2 lawyers for elevation as judges of the Patna High Court.

After meetings held on July 1, the Collegium recommended the following lawyers for judgeship:

(i) Ajit Kumar

(ii) Praveen Kumar

The Patna High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 36 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 53.

Notably, Bar & Bench reported today that the Collegium has tightened the process for selection of judges and intensified scrutiny of candidates.

It was also revealed that the Collegium interacted with a total of 54 candidates in 2 days to fill High Court judge vacancies.
