

Judicial Appointments Tracker aims to provide regular updates on the appointment status of a candidate from the time they are recommended for judgeship by the Supreme Court Collegium until the appointment is cleared by the Central government.
Below are the details of the recommendations made by the Collegium and the appointments notified by the Central government in April, May, and June 2026.
April 10
The Central government cleared the March 24 recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium to appoint following three additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges of that High Court:
Justice R Poornima;
Justice M Jothiraman; and
Justice Augustine Devadoss Maria Clete.
Status: The Central government has cleared all the appointments
On April 10, the Central government also cleared the May 24 recommendation with regard to the appointment of the following additional judges of the Chattisgarh High Court as permanent judges:
Justice Sachin Singh Rajput;
Justice Radhakishan Agrawal;
Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal;
Justice Bibhu Datta Guru; and
Justice Amitendra Kishore Prasad.
April 14
The Supreme Court collegium on April 14 made several recommendations.
For Kerala High Court, it recommended the appointment of advocate Preeta AK and Senior Advocate Liz Mathew as judges. While Preeta AK was practising before the Kerala High Court, Mathew's practice was primarily at the Supreme Court of India.
Status: The Central government notified the appointment of Preeta AK on April 24. The recommendation to appoint Mathew as a judge remains pending.
On April 14, the Supreme Court Collegium also recommended the appointment of the three judicial officers as judges of the Karnataka High Court.
Rajeshwari Narayana Hegde;
Kedambadi Ganesh Shanthi; and
Brungesh Mahadevappa
Status: The Central government cleared the recommendation on May 29. Justice Hegde will serve as a judge till March 17, 2028, when she will attain superannuation. Justices Shanthi and Mahadevappa have been given a two-year term as additional judges, from the date on which they assume office.
The Collegium also recommended that Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande be made a permanent judge of the Bombay High Court.
Status: The Central government cleared the recommendation on April 24.
The Collegium on April 14 also recommended that the following 4 Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court be made permanent:
Justices Yara Renuka;
Justice Nandikonda Narsing Rao;
Justice E Tirumala Devi; and
Justice BR Madhusudhan Rao.
Status: The Central government cleared the recommendation on April 24.
April 23
The Central government notified the appointment of Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Lisa Gill as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice Gill was appointed as a puisne judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in March and took over as its Chief Justice upon the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on April 24.
Justice Gill was transferred early to the Andhra Pradesh High Court in line with a new policy announced by the Supreme Court Collegium earlier this year.
May 05
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of the 10 advocates, including three women lawyers, as judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The lawyers recommended were Monica Chhibber Sharma, Harmeet Singh Deol, Puja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Navdeep Singh, Divya Sharma, Ravinder Malik, Pravindra Singh Chauhan, Rajesh Gaur and Minderjeet Yadav.
Status: These recommendations are yet to be cleared by the Central government.
On the same day, the Collegium recommended the appointment of 3 judicial officers as judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court: Sunitha Gandham, Alapati Giridhar, and Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi @ Ch. Purushottama Kumar.
Status: The Central government cleared their appointment on July 3.
May 12
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of 9 advocates as judges of the Calcutta High Court: Indranil Roy, Aryak Dutt, Atarup Banerjee, Sandip Kumar De, Partha Pratim Roy, Sudip Deb, Anuj Singh, Arjun Ray Mukherjee, and Rishad Medora.
Status: These recommendations are yet to be cleared by the Central government.
May 19
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of 19 persons as judges of the Madras High Court.
The 19 names recommended by the Collegium include 10 advocates and 9 judicial officers.
The advocates are:
P Murugan, MD Sumathi, S Alli, C Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran, Karthikeyan Balathandayutham, Natarajan Ramesh, GK Muthukumaar, Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan, Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar and Ellappan Manoharan.
The judicial officers are:
Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, K Appadurai alias Kandavel Appadurai, Ramasamy Anitha, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan and N Gunasekaran.
The recommendations were made on the basis of four proposals dated November 4, 2025, November 21, 2025, December 7, 2025 and December 10, 2025, which were considered by the Collegium at its meeting held on May 18, 2026.
Status: These recommendations are yet to be cleared by the government.
On May 19, the Collegium also recommended that the following 6 additional judges of the Bombay High Court be made permanent:
Justice Nivedita Prakash Mehta;
Justice Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar;
Justice Ashwin Damodar Bhobe;
Justice Rohit Wasudeo Joshi,
Justice Advait Mahendra Sethna; and
Justice Pravin Sheshrao Patil
While Justice Patil was appointed as the additional judge in January 2025, the other five judges were appointed as additional judges of the High Court in October 2024.
Status: The Central government cleared their appointment on June 6.
May 22
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Sikkim High Court Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai as the next Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Status: The Central government cleared the recommendation on June 2. Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo was serving as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court at the time. Justice Rai took charge after his retirement on June 4.
May 27
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of four High Court Chief Justices and one Senior Advocate as judges of the Supreme Court - Justice Sheel Nagu; Justice Shree Chandrashekhar; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva; Justice Arun Palli; and Senior Advocate V Mohana.
Status: The Central government cleared the recommendation on June 1.
Justice Sheel Nagu was serving as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. His parent High Court is Madhya Pradesh. He was a member of the in-house inquiry committee that examined the cash-at-residence controversy involving Justice Yashwant Varma, one of the most consequential judicial accountability proceedings in recent years.
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, who was the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, comes from the Jharkhand High Court.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, who was the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, hails from Delhi High Court.
Justice Arun Palli, who was the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, is from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice V Mohana practiced at the Supreme Court of India and was among the advocates in the landmark litigation concerning permanent commission for women officers in the Indian Army.
Her elevation is among a handful of instances in the Supreme Court's history where a lawyer has been directly elevated to the apex court from the Bar.
JUNE
June 1
The Central government issued notifications appointing acting Chief Justices across four High Courts – Punjab and Haryana, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh – following the elevation of their respective Chief Justices as judges of the Supreme Court of India.
A gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on June 1, notifying the following appointments:
1. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra appointed Acting Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court (after the elevation of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu)
2. Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge appointed Acting Chief Justice, Bombay High Court (after the elevation of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar)
3. Justice Vivek Rusia appointed Acting Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court (after the elevation of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva)
4. Justice Sanjeev Kumar appointed Acting Chief Justice, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court (after elevation of Chief Justice Arun Palli)
On June 2, the Supreme Court Collegium made recommendations for the appointment of judges to three High Courts.
For the Karnataka High Court, it recommended the following 6 lawyers:
Raghavendra Seetharam Srivatsa;
Hema Kulkarni;
Subramanya Rangarao;
Thadagavadi Prakash Vivekananda;
Bakkeswara Pramod; and
Hombe Gowda Shanthi Bhushan.
Status: The recommendation is yet to be cleared by the government.
For the Himachal Pradesh High Court, it recommended the following 3 judicial officers:
Chirag Bhanu Singh;
Bhupesh Sharma;
and Yogesh Jaswal.
Status: The said recommendation is also pending with the government.
For the Madhya Pradesh High Court, it recommended the appointment of advocate Amit Lahoti as a judge.
Status: The recommendation is yet to be cleared by the government.
The Collegium on June 2 also recommended that the appointment of two additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Harmeet Singh Grewal and Justice Deepinder Singh Nalwa as permanent judges of that court. Justice Grewal and Justice Nalwa were sworn in as additional judges of the High Court on February 17, 2025.
Status: The recommendation was cleared by the Central government on July 3
June 10
The Central government cleared the Supreme Court Collegium's February 26 recommendation for the appointment of 7 lawyers as judges of the Patna High Court.
While advocates Ranjan Kumar Jha, Kumar Manish and Raj Kumar were appointed as permanent judges, advocates Rana Vikram Singh, Vikash Kumar, Girijish Kumar, and Alok Kumar were appointed as additional judges.
The February 26 recommendation included the names of two more lawyers, advocates Md Nadim Seraj and Sanjeev Kumar. However, their appointment has not been cleared by the Central government so far.
June 19
The Central government notified the appointment of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty, judge of the Calcutta High Court, as Acting Chief Justice of the Court upon the retirement of Justice Sujoy Paul from the post on June 20.
